Compound semiconductors end up in defence and commercial systems where failure is not an option. This UK fab has been making them at volume for over 25 years, and a long-term investment plan is now taking it into new products and applications.

£44,000 | Full time | On site, shift based

Company mission

Manufacturing compound semiconductor devices for defence and commercial applications.

Role Overview

A shift-based technician role in the Process Engineering team. You will be the engineering point of contact across the fab outside day shift, keeping production running when process or wafer test issues come up, and using the extended hours to move development and improvement work forward.

What You'll Own

Shift Process Support

  • Engineering cover for all processing areas outside day shift
  • Responding to out-of-control events, containing them on shift and supporting disposition
  • Investigating, diagnosing and resolving process and wafer test issues
  • Working with the shift supervisor and technicians so production priorities are clear and acted on
  • Clear handovers between shifts so open issues keep moving

Process Improvement and Yield

  • Finding and implementing improvements that lift yield and efficiency and reduce operating cost
  • Yield improvement work alongside device, yield and process unit engineers
  • Supporting fast introduction of new processes and products, then stabilising yield
  • Tracking and presenting the status of production processes

Standards and Training

  • Making sure engineering procedures are followed across fab and test areas
  • Training operators and fellow technicians
  • Supporting a strong safety and environmental culture in line with ISO 14001

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Experience in a high-volume semiconductor manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of how fab equipment operates in at least one process discipline
  • Understanding of statistical process control (SPC)
  • A grasp of how variation in process conditions affects device performance
  • Experience running structured experiments
  • A methodical approach to troubleshooting, and comfortable working on shift without direct supervision
  • ONC or equivalent in electronics, chemistry, physics, materials science or a related subject
  • Confident with MS Office

Useful

  • Experience training operators or technicians
  • Involvement in new process introduction or yield improvement projects
