RF Device Characterisation and Modelling Engineer
Wave Recruitment · County Durham
GaN and GaAs devices sit at the heart of high-frequency defence and commercial RF systems. This UK compound semiconductor fab has been making them for over 25 years, and long-term investment is now pushing its technology and product range forward.
Full time | On site | UK nationals only, security clearance required
Company mission
Designing and manufacturing compound semiconductor devices for defence and commercial applications.
Role Overview
You will characterise microwave GaN and GaAs transistors and turn the data into the compact models that go into MMIC Process Design Kits. Circuit designers depend on these models, so you will work closely with them on what they need and how the PDKs perform in practice.
What You'll Own
Characterisation
- DC, pulsed I-V, noise, and small and large-signal microwave measurements
- Running and directing RF characterisation for model development and validation
- Device assessment to support new process development
- Characterisation support for development projects and operations teams
Modelling and PDKs
- Building small and large-signal models for active devices and passive components
- Contributing to MMIC PDK development and keeping the kits competitive
- Technical reports and model documentation
Designer Support
- Working with MMIC designers to understand requirements and act on feedback
- Customer support on PDKs
- Keeping up with new characterisation and modelling techniques
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Hands-on DC and RF/microwave characterisation of semiconductor devices
- Solid understanding of RF/microwave device physics
- In-depth knowledge of small and large-signal circuit theory and device equivalent circuits
- Programming experience, ideally for test automation
- BEng or BSc in Electronic Engineering, Physics or a related subject
- British citizenship and willingness to undergo security clearance
Useful
- Compact device modelling experience
- Exposure to MMIC design flows or PDK development
